Day 25 Finding Balance Yoga

finding balance, balance, yoga,

Before I became a full-time yoga teacher nearly 9 years ago, and quit my job as a City lawyer, I had no balance in my life.  And as a mother of two young kids, at that time, I was juggling my legal work, running a home, running around after my kids, commuting 3 hours a day and teaching yoga part-time in the evenings!  I believed that I was becoming a bad lawyer, a bad wife,  and a bad mother, not giving my all to any of them, and I was exhausted.  After my Dad was rushed to hospital one day, (thankfully he was and is ok,) I realised that life was too short to carry on in that way and to carry on in a job that I no longer loved.  And I wanted to spend more time with my family, and peruse my dream to teach yoga full time.  Having created the space for the new, that space was filled by yoga and by my family and all of the things I loved.  I think quitting my legal career was the best decision I ever made.  And I have no regrets.

So, if you are not finding balance, then I urge you to step off the treadmill of life, or at least pause it.  Maybe 2020 and 2021, lockdown and working from home has changed how you feel about all of the aspects of your life and has given you the space to be able to move forwards and take control of your life?  And if not, I urge you to think about where you would like to be in 5 years and take steps to get yourself there.

Today is all about finding balance, in our yoga practice, whether that is on one or two feet!

To ‘balance’ is to put something in a steady position so that it does not fall. It is also a situation in which different elements are equal or in the correct proportions, such as a work/life balance; a balanced scale; or a balanced diet.  Balances are not just physical balances. When your mind is balanced, and calm and when you are breathing equally through both nostrils you are in a calm, balanced state. And a balanced mind means that you are likely to balance more easily, (physically,) than when you have a chattering mind!  And you are able to make the right decisions too.

Don’t forget that some days will be easier than others to balance. And practice is the key. Having a chair or wall nearby is also a great prop for your balances today.

Take care and have a great day.
