Svadhisthana Chakra • Practice and Explanation

Svadhsthana chakra is found at the sacral area, the triangular bone just above the tail bone/coccyx and radiates forwards and blooms into the lower abdomen one or 2 inches below the navel, in the lower abdomen.

The second chakra in the physical body is associated with the colour orange; think of joy, upliftment, warmth, vitality and health.

Svadhisthana chakra represents your passions, likes, and dislikes and is your pleasure centre. The second chakra is the centre of feeling emotion, pleasure, sensitivity, sensuality, intimacy and connection. It’s also your creative energy centre. Everything you create or make comes from this centre. This Chakra is also where your fertility originates .

The best sacral poses are those that work with movement in the hips and lower abdomen. Postures and yoga breathing are aimed at moving energy through this area.

Associated with the water element this chakra reflects our likes and dislikes, the shifting tides of attraction and repulsion. So we also practice soft, fluid, flowing poses and sequences. Like Water Svadhisthana chakra can attach to good things and bad things.

A person with an open Svadhisthana chakra is said to be passionate, present in the body, sensual and creative and connected with their feelings.
